Why do Witnesses think they preach the "Good News"

the "good news" is a heavy buzz term that any witness will need no elaboration to understand unquestionably.

it seems illogical, to me, for the witnesses to call their message the "good news.".

i used to go door to door with a message of "whatever you are doing right now is wrong and will get you killed unless you preach door to door like me.

"If you were walking down the street and saw the roof of a house on fire, but looked inside the living room window and saw a family sitting together all happy watching TV and eating dinner, you wouldn't say, 'oh they look peaceful, I won't disturb them', you'd bang the door and yell at them to get out! Therefore, we shouldn't feel that we can't disturb people who appear content with their lives, we have to go forth with boldness and warn them of the coming destruction!"

The difference here being that we have all had some kind of experience with fire. We can prove that it exists. The problem with this "coming destruction" is that it's always in a state of "coming". It's stuck in the perverbial photograph of time. You can't prove a future event because it hasn't happened yet. Now you can however use past dealings with an event to guesstimate the outcome of the new event but this isn't proof of the future. You go to a restuarant, eat there all the time, BAM you get food poisoning one day....why? Because you are using your past dealings with the restaurant to tell you it's ok to eat there. If you knew the future event that you'd get food poisoning most likey you wouldn't have gone to that restaurant that day.

"We have to go forth with boldness and warn them of the coming destruction" is really saying "We have to scare people into believing the crap we're spewing to help secure the future of this publishing company"

so i was thinking about how jws tie holidays to paganistic roots (birthdays, x-mas, halloween) and it got me to thinking about these holidays today as opposed to when they were introduced.

x-mas may have gotten its start in the catholic church and been all about jesus' birthday but it's a whole new breed of holiday today.

it ain't about jesus or his birthday; it's about gift giving and togetherness with family and friends.

it ain't about jesus or his birthday; it's about gift giving and togetherness with family and friends.

Sure it's been turned into a material frenzied free for all for companies and corporations but I'm sure there are people out there who pace themselves during the year to be able to pay for presents.

Halloween initially was about people dressing up in costumes to SCARE THE EVIL SPIRITS AWAY. Wherein lies the problem? Don't JWs strive to keep the evil spirits away, even at the cost of bastardizing the most simplest thing? What is Halloween about now? Spirits? Not hardly. It's about going to houses and getting candy when you're a kid and going to social parties/events when you get a bit older. So what we really have here is a gradual turn from something Catholic or evil spirited into something else.

So, how is this different from: "Millions now living WILL never die!" to "Millions now living MAY never die" or "the generation of 1914" to "overlapping generations"? The sayings have morphed into something else and the old sayings are now the orphaned love child between the GB and JWs at the time of it's writing. No, let something be tied to the church of old and it's held over the fact forever but when someone ties old WTB(s)TS doctrine with what is being shoveled today and it's "new light" or "outdated info" Really? REALLY? Really? Really? Really?

what toys did you all ways want but couldnt have because you were a jw!

i was lucky not to be born into the jw's, so i had pretty much every toy i wanted .... actionman (g.i joe) with all the guns, tanks wonderful 2nd world war uniforms, toy soldiers cavalry, indians, cowboys, knights,castles and forts.. six million dollar man, lone ranger and tonto, toy cars matchbox captin scarlett, thunder birds, loads of guns to run around playing war.. great days.

(of course my sisters had dolls and prams, barbies cindys, play make up).

i know having spoken to jws born into it certain toys were of limits for some kids.. a good friend told me how he loved action man and played with them constantly, until one day he came home and saw them all by the door in a. card board box.. when he asked his mum what she was doing.. she told him "do you really think jehovah wants you to play war, you can keep one of them but he cant have any guns and fight people".

The GB tightening their grip! Straw to break a camel's back?

i post on a couple of forums and read and lurk and all that stuff.. a theme that seems to be gaining momentum is about how the gb are 'tightening their grip' and 'becoming more cultish'.. i don't read the publications anymore and oddly i read extracts of them on the forums.. punk is babbling now.............sorry...................my questions are (sorry if they're a bit long.

The WTB(s)TS is on more damage control than they ever have been. Just 17 or 18 years ago if you wanted to know about something you either grabbed a newspaper or you watched the news, both of which was limited to local info and big happenings. Now, if anything surfaces we have almost immediate access to info about it online. Used to be that if you wanted to make a video you had to lug around a huge camcorder and blank VHS tapes. Now, all one needs is a phone. The greatest enemy the washtowel has right now isn't Satan, it's information being spread freely and immediately. So they're gonna keep trying to scare you about the dangers of the internet (porn, pedophilia, the big bad apostates lying on the helpless and honest society) cause really, that's all they have. Forget the cowbell, more smoke and mirrors.

this seems to be a favorite topic to bring up to any witnesses who post on any website where there are any opposers, either here or topix or anywhere.. so, here is the one and only place i will be discussing it.

who can prove that witnesses are specifically told not to post on websites about them?.

S/F when dealing with WT doctrine you have to look at it from different angles. There's the WT view of a particular situation and then there's the reality. When they talk about how pedophiles lure children, pornography, or misleading blogs and websites, these are all fear tactics used to get you to forget about the wealth of information the internet has. If they keep you from getting on the racetrack by talking about all the accidents that Nascar racers have experienced then you will never race and therefore never win a race. The very idea that anybody who has left the dubs is some disgruntled person looking to take some dubs down with them is absolute bulls--t. If you and I were both dubs and while we were in we did things like play pool or bowl, or come to each others barbeques, then I leave, the JW view is that from this point on I'm a tool of Satan and will only led you out of the truth if you continue to hang with me. The reality is: your faith is really weak if something I do leads you out. The ol' boys up in Brooklyn know this. Person A hanging around person B doesn't mean that person A will adopt person B's behavior. My aunt's eating habits are different from mine. I'm not a healthy eater and she is not a junkfood king. She wears dresses, I do not. What I wear doesn't affect her clothing choices anymore than hers affects my clothing choices. It is groupthink mentality. Oftentimes they don't say irrefutably that something WILL happen when it comes to our entertainment and social adventures. They say what "may" happen, or "it's possible that...." This is for a reason. It's not claiming undeniably yet at the same time it's not negating it's possiblity. "You WILL go to a party and be lured into drug abuse, alcohol abuse and even fornication...." is different from "You MAY go to a party and be lured into...." yet your mind still pictures it happening because of the negative, myopic and bad catagory words that follow "drug abuse (bad) alcohol abuse (bad) fornication (bad)" You would have an even greater chance of going to a party, having a nice time socializing and coming home than you would being lured into drugs, alcohol and sex. Or maybe dubs wouldn't because they're so susceptible to powers of suggestion that any wind will blow them away. After all, it was a wind that blew them in the truth so why couldn't that same wind blow them out? The ancients up in Brooklyn know this as well. So anything that they tell you about what could happen, what jerkovah wants and doesn't want, what Satan wants is all, at it's core, just a way to protect their investment. And I got news for you S/F: You are NOT their investment. This isn't about protecting YOU. It's about protecting THEM, their lifestyle of using YOU. Because as long as there's a dub who does what they tell them to under the guise of being spirit directed, as long as there's a dub who doesn't think critically about what he/she is supposedly learning, as long as there's a dub who denies this critical thought and refuses to question because of some deity who is SUPPOSEDLY walking about like a roaring lion seeking to devour someone, then their publishing company, the lifestyles of the upper epsilon are safe.
